Dermatitis herpetiformis, the celiac disease of the skin!

Gluten-related diseases were recently classified into three groups according to their physiopathological mechanisms: autoimmunity (celiac disease, dermatitis herpetiformis, gluten ataxia), allergy (wheat allergyrespiratory, alimentary, contact urticary and WDEIA) and no-autoimmune no-allergic (gluten sensitivity)(30). Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is an autoimmune blistering cutaneous disease that appears as a consequence of gluten intolerance. There is evidence that DH should be considered as the specific phenotypic cutaneous expression of a gluten-sensitive enteropathy indistinguishable from celiac disease (CD)(36).
